Foundation

The question of sustainability, the axis of the global public agenda, brings together some of the challenges that societies currently face, and will continue to cope with increasingly in the coming decades, as it involves, among other aspects, answers to issues such as the increase in international migration, the digital revolution and the need to protect the environment. These are issues that concern the joint functioning of societies but that address in a very specific way education and formation. The forming institutions on which the education systems are framed are not immune to change, both in its foundations and in its functioning as they play a central role in the development of a common future that consolidates the foundations of humanity on the planet.

These challenges have a universal dimension, but they are also expressed at the national and local levels, in the ways in which these issues are presented and in the responses to them. The resulting national dimensions are inscribed in specific cultural anchors and are expressed through concepts and terminologies that are not always universal. The complexity of the challenges requires a plurality of approaches and a call to all disciplines that can make a contribution to a better overall understanding.

The XX Congress of the AMCE that will be held in June of 2020 in Buenos Aires, becomes an opportunity for a debate in education to acquire heightened relevance both in the academic and the public agenda. This is an opportunity to generate an international academic instance about education where it is possible to analyze the present tensions that characterizes the complex processes associated with education and instruction, most specially those within the framework of the transformations of contemporary societies and its current challenges, characterized by the scale, speed and complexity which are unprecedented in history. The XX Congress of the AMCE, co-organized by UNIPE and UNSAM, will be the occasion to give the floor to all the researchers who, from their respective domains, are in a position to provide the necessary clarifications, and to count at the same time with the voices of officials whose responsibility is to carry out innovations based on the contributions of educational research.

Activities

The Congress will have plenary sessions (open to all participants) and work tables where researchers will present their contributions. The open events will have simultaneous translation to the three languages of the Congress: Spanish, French, and English.

The planned plenary sessions include: the opening conference, three panels of specialists who will discuss each of the axes of the Congress -Migrations, Digital Society and Sustainable Development- from plural perspectives and different traditions.
